Choosing the best attractions
Experiences range from culture to heritage, amazing cuisine to ultra-modern skyscrapers, enigmatic cave complexes and more. As some of them are in different cities of this vast nation it is best to have a quick review of them before deciding on which cities to cover.
George Town – The second largest city after Kuala Lumpur and the capital of Penang State, George Town is endowed with a rich multicultural heritage from European colonization and Asian influences. Currently a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this charming city carries a unique blend of old-world charm with modern buildings and lifestyles of the people attracting visitors from Bukit Mertajam apartments to enjoy the best of both worlds.
These places include the old Chinese Shophouses, fascinating street art where most visitors capture images, famous Penang Street food outlets, modern Gurney Plaza where shopaholics especially from hotels such as Citadines Prai Penang revel for hours on end and the scenic Batu Ferringhi Beach for pure pleasure of enjoying the sun, sea, and sand.
Cameron Highlands – A choice retreat in the early 19th century for British Colonials to escape the tropical heat of the city of Kuala Lumpur. The lower temperatures and the wet weather combination of Cameron Highlands were ideal for them to later grow tea. At present, visitors love this terrain of green landscapes, dropped temperatures and layer upon layer of tea bushes creating lovely symmetry to feast your eyes on. A stay at a tea bungalow coupled with a visit to the plantation are ideal choices at Cameron Highlands.
Kuala Lumpur – The capital city is a bustling hub with many awe-inspiring attractions, historical landmarks, hiking trails, glorious shopping, and plenty of food to thrill visitors of all ages and tastes. The efficient public transportation system is a great way to cover many attractions in the city at reasonable rates. You can see and explore many attractions on your own by visiting Petronas Towers, the vibrant China Town, Central Market, Batu Caves and the list goes on.
Arrival in Malaysia and travel within the country
You can plan to arrive in the capital Kuala Lumpur (KL), which most visitors do as there are direct flights from many parts of the world to KL. Thereafter, based on the attractions chosen you may need to use ground transportation to explore other cities, whilst you can plan to arrive directly at some domestic cities by doing a domestic flight from KL to that city like Penang, Kuching etc.
Travelling within Malaysia – The capital city KL has a sound public transportation system using which you can cover many attractions at a reasonable cost, whilst walking is also a pleasure when distances are shorter from your place of accommodation.
Travel in/around KL
Hop on/off bus – This double-decker service covers many attractions and operates regularly offering 24-hour or 48-hour tickets at attractive rates.
KL Metro System – An efficient subway system offering a wide network of cities from KL. You can buy the ticket from vending machines at the stations and even travel to/from the airport using this service.
Grab Rides – Using their app you can book your trips to reach attractions using this car service and pay by credit card or cash, these are cheaper than taxis.
Normal Taxis – These are available at higher rates than Grab Rides.
Travel in/around Penang – This is also covered by a sound transportation system made up of public and private operators.
Places to stay
In terms of accommodation, Malaysia offers value for the money paid. Whilst properties in KL can be slightly higher rates in other cities are much less.
